The Spanish Association for Cancer Research grants its ASEICA Award, recognitions that value the efforts of Spanish researchers in advances against cancer
ASEICA Award 2020

ASEICA Cancer Research Award 2020 to the researcher with the best career: Amparo Cano, researcher at the Alberto Sols Biomedical Research Institute- CSIC-UAM where she directs the group “Invasion and metastasis” and combines research and teaching as a professor of Biochemistry at the Autonomous University of Madrid. Her scientific interests in the last 30 years have focused on the study of the role of cell adhesion processes and their regulation during tumor progression. She is the author of more than 125 publications, 5 patents and regularly participates as an advisor to various national and international scientific committees and numerous scientific journals.

ASEICA Young Investigator Award 2020: aimed at rewarding the scientific trajectory of excellence of young researchers in the area of cancer, it has been awarded to doctors Aleix Prat and José Manuel Tubío in their clinical and pre-clinical modalities, respectively

Aleix Prat is head of the Medical Oncology Service of the Hospital Clínic de Barcelona, head of the IDIBAPS ‘Translational Genomics’ research group and currently combines his scientific work with a position of full professor of Medicine at the University of Barcelona, in addition to being president by SOLTI.

On the other hand, José Manuel Tubío is director of the ‘Genomes and Disease’ Group of the Molecular Medicine Research Center (CiMUS) of the University of Santiago and has played a very relevant role as leader in one of the project’s working groups “Pan-Cancer Analysis of Whole Genomes”.

ASEICA Woman Researcher Award 2020, which recognizes the scientific trajectory and work in the professional development of women in Science: Pilar Garrido, head of the Thoracic, Genitourinary, Endocrine, Head and Neck Tumors, and Melanoma Unit of the Medical Oncology at Hospital Ramón y Cajal and clinical professor at the University of Alcalá.

ASEICA Cancer Research Award 2018 to the researcher with the best career: Ángela Nieto, research professor at the CSIC-UMH Institute of Neurosciences in Alicante, president of the International Society for Developmental Biology (ISDB) and Scientific Delegate for Spain at the European Molecular Biology Laboratory since 2010. Dr. Nieto is also a member of the Board of Directors of the International Society for Differentiation (ISD) and the Scientific Advisory Committee of the State Research Agency (AEI).

ASEICA Award 2018: Jerónimo Forteza, of the Valencian Institute of Pathologies (IVP), recognised for his long career in cancer research. Forteza is responsible for the Mixed Unit of Molecular Pathologies and Research of the IVP

ASEICA Young Investigator Award 2018Roger Gomis, ICREA Research Professor and member of the Oncology Programme of the Biomedicine Research Institute of Barcelona (IRB Barcelona).

ASEICA Woman Researcher Award, which recognizes the scientific career and work in the professional development of women in Science: Ana Lluch, head of the Haematology and Oncology service of the Clinical Hospital of Valencia.
