About the Speakers:
Dr Luis Paz Ares is the Chair of the Medical Oncology Department of the “12 de Octubre Hospital”, Lecturer at the Complutense University of Madrid and he also leads the Lung Cancer Clinical Research Unit at CNIO (Spanish National Cancer Research Centre, Madrid). His main research interests are immunotherapy and immune-based early clinical trials in several types of solid tumours, but particularly lung cancer. Hence, his group has conducted crucial trials with immune checkpoint inhibitors.
Dr John Maher is a Clinical Senior Lecturer and Honorary Consultant in Immunology and leads the Chimeric Antigen Receptors (CAR) Mechanics Group at the King’s College London. His major focus entails the development of immunotherapy for malignancy, by designing and testing of CARs to re-target T-cell specificity against specific designated tumour antigens. His research is focused on pre-clinical testing of these molecules in models of several malignancies, including breast, ovarian, prostate and pancreatic cancer as well as selected lymphomas and acute myeloid leukaemia.
